The Prime Minister has agreed a plan to upgrade the Vinh Airport in the central province of Nghe An into an international airport.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Transport to collect opinions of relevant ministries on upgrading the Vinh Airport into an international airport to 2030 with a post-2030 orientations. The Prime Minister also required the Ministry of Transport to add Vinh Airport in planning the system of international airports nationwide.
The Vinh Airport master plan has been originally approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2006 and has been adjusted in 2011.
With 7 airplane bays, the airport is expected to receive 2.5 million passengers annually by 2020. The number will reach 7.0 million passengers a year by 2030.
In 2014, the Vinh Airport welcomed 1.25 million passengers, reaching the average growth rate of 43.89% over the past 13 years, the highest growth rate in the country.
