Viet Nam is expected to earn US$ 6.9 billion from shipping aquatic products abroad, representing a 13% increase against 2012, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The VASEP oversees that shrimp would continue to be the advantageous commodity especially litopenaeus vannamei following the positive outcomes recorded last year.
Catfish export would decline to around 800,000-850,000 tons in output and US$ 1.6 billion in revenue or a year-on-year decrease of 5%.
Meanwhile, shipment of tuna, octopus and other types of seafood would recover slightly and earn around US$ 2.2 billion in revenue.
However, Viet Nam’s aquatic export would encounter numerous challenges excluding shrimp as its key export markets have yet escaped from recession and the sector is suffering from the lack of raw materials.
The VASEP has crafted measures to extricate difficulties for advantageous products such as a national program to improve the quality of catfish fillet and tighten the control of shrimp breeding and processing.
