ASEAN National Tourism Organizations convenes meeting in Vietnam's heritage city
The meeting aims to set guidelines to ASEAN tourism development in the future and give out solutions to sustainable tourism development.
The 49th meeting of the ASEAN National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) officially opened in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province on January 14 with a range of activities, local media reported.
Over 200 delegates and travel executives from ASEAN NTOs and partner countries take part in the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said that tourism activities have made remarkable contributions to the socio-economic development of the wider Asian region.
According to Khanh, tourism development within the regional bloc will help build understanding among its people and help promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the grouping. He added that preserving the unique cultural values of each nation remains at the heart of working towards sustainable tourism development.
The meeting aims to orient ASEAN tourism development goals in the future and propose solutions to sustainable tourism development, focusing on clarifying the level of GDP contribution of the tourism industry, its growth rate and the number of international tourists.
The ATF 2019 is transpiring in Quang Ninh from January 14 to 18. On the sidelines of the event, organizers will also take the delegates to Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu mountain.
Over 20 events will be held during the 2019 ATF with theme “ASEAN – The Power of One” including the 23rd ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting, the first ASEAN - China Tourism Ministers Meeting, the ASEAN - India Tourism Ministers Meeting, the ASEAN Tourism Awards, among others. In addition, the ASEAN Tourism Forum on Travel Exchange (Travex) will also be held.
This is the second time Vietnam hosts the ASEAN Tourism Forum, following the previous hosting in 2009. This year’s event is a chance for Vietnam to improve its role and stature in regional tourism cooperation and introduce the country’s natural beauty and people to international friends.
