Since Vietnam joined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 1998, the forum has become an important force supporting the country’s economic reform and restructuring, growth model shift and global economic integration, including the entry to the World Trade Organisation. The year 2017 sees the second time Vietnam has played host to the forum after 19 years of being its member.
Hosting APEC 2017 is a focus of Vietnam’s external activities this year as well as the country’s strategy to integrate more intensively and extensively into the world. The event, which is a highlight of the APEC Year 2017 in Vietnam, is expected to welcome leaders from 21 member economies. About 4,000 foreign and local correspondents are expected to cover the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and related meetings.
Earlier in October, the statement on U.S government website (Whitehouse.gov) has just revealed that President Donald Trump will travel to Hanoi city, pay official visit to Vietnam after his attending in APEC Summit.
Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
