Belgium to support innovative and sustainable agriculture in Vietnam

The seminar “Supporting innovative and sustainable agriculture in Vietnam” is taking place in Hanoi with the collaboration of Vietnamese and Belgian goverment.

In the framework of activities celebrating 40 years of Belgian Development Cooperation in Vietnam (1977-2017), the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, in close collaboration with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), is organizing a Seminar “Supporting innovative and sustainable agriculture in Vietnam”, by looking at the results and prospects that Belgian partners - governmental, businesses and academics - can offer to the Vietnamese agricultural sector.

The seminar will take place on Thursday the 23rd of November at the Conference Centre Ballroom of the Inter Continental Hanoi Westlake from 13.30 to 17.30. The opening remarks will be given by Belgium’s vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Dirk Achten who will be conducting an working visit to Vietnam from November 22nd to 24th 2017 and vice-minister of MARD Mr. Le Quoc Doanh.
Being proud to have contributed to the development of Vietnam over the past four decades through development cooperation and investments in various sectors, the Belgian Embassy organizes the event as a part of the 2017 Joint Economic Commission between Belgium and Vietnam. It showcases the ways in which the Belgium-Vietnam partnership can help tackle agricultural challenges. The first major theme of the seminar will encompass Innovative Agriculture in Vietnam (Room 1) where presentations ranging from the projected impacts of climate change to the remote sensing for sustainable land use will be discussed. Secondly, Sustainable Food Production in Vietnam (Room 2) will tackle subjects concerning biosecurity, disease prevention, and crop protection amongst many more.
From being long standing partners in development cooperation, Belgium and Vietnam have been maturing bilateral ties in different sectors. This seminar is an occasion for Belgium to reiterate its support towards sustainable growth and development in Vietnam and honour 40 years of development cooperation between our countries.
