There are a lot of great events you can enjoy in Hanoi this weekend, but don’t worry-we’ll whittle it down for you.
Traditional Music & Beatbox Concert “Nam Nhi”
You are invited to the traditional music and beatbox concert “Nam Nhi” (rough translation Macho) with artist Ngo Hong Quang, beatboxer Trung Bao and a string quintet.
The concert is a unique combination of musical pieces written by Ngo Hong Quang for traditional instruments and some of the quan họ (a type of Vietnamese folk music) tracks from his latest album. Performing solo, in duo and with a string quintet (2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, and 1 contrabass), Ngo Hong Quang, in collaboration with talented beatboxer Trung Bao and the string quintet, will bring the audience to a musical trance purely Vietnamese – familiar yet strange, old yet new, spanning from the mountainous northern region to the Red River Delta.
Time: Saturday 30 Jun 2018, 8 pm
Venue: L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien Str, Hanoi
FILMstoryteller 22: “A Brighter Summer Day”
“A Brighter Summer Day” sets in the early sixties in Taiwan (China), directed by Edward Yang, based on the true story of a crime that rocked the nation. A film of both sprawling scope and tender intimacy, this novelistic, patiently observed epic centers on the gradual, inexorable fall of a young teenager (Chen Chang, in his first role) from innocence to juvenile delinquency, and is set against a simmering backdrop of restless youth, rock and roll, and political turmoil.
Time: Saturday, June 30 at 6:30 – 10 pm

Indian Film Screening: “Manmanatha”
You are invited to a film screening of the Indian Telugu drama “Manmanatha” (All of us) directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti, starring Mohanlal, Gautami, Viswant Duddumpudi and Raina Rao.
“Manmanatha” narrates the story of four ordinary people whose lives quickly spiral out of control after a boy and a father go missing. The plot is beautifully written, full of mysteries and dramas. But instead of being just simply fiction, the movie brilliantly reverts the stereotypical Bollywood plotlines and shows the reality of the Indian middle-class life, which often can involve harsh choices and terrible consequences.

Venue: Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, 63 Tran Hung Dao Str, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi
