The southern city of Can Tho recently installed free public wifi on Ninh Kieu Wharf as part of an image-building exercise and to attract more tourists.
Five sets of wifi equipment were installed at a cost of VND$1 billion (over $47,600). Their range is 150 meters. Funded by the city's Department of Information and Communications, the system was installed by Saigon Postel Corporation in December.
About 4,000 people use the wifi each day.
Can Tho plans to install more wifi spots in Luu Huu Phuoc Park and other central locations.
Can Tho is the seventh city in the country to provide free public wifi after several northern and central tourist destinations including Hoi An, Hue and Tam Dao Town near Ha Noi.
