Cloud Festival kicks off in Sa Pa

The opening ceremony of the annual Sapa in the Cloud Festival at Ham Rong tourist resort on May 1 was hosted with the participation of thousands of visitors as part of the Sapa Culture and Tourism Week 2014.

Tourists have a chance to enjoy a special art performance staged by amateur artists from H’Mong, Dao, Tay, Giay and Xa Pho ethnic groups in Lao Cai province.

They toured showrooms displaying hand-made souvenirs, production tools, and musical instruments of ethnic groups, watched fashion shows of traditional costumes, and took part in sport games such as tug of war, stick pushing, swinging, and archery.

The festival ends on May 2.

Besides activities taking place in Sapa, visitors can join a cultural festive day in Mong Cat Cat village to explore the daily life of H’Mong people.

They are able to examine the art of silversmithing, agricultural tools production, weaving, and indigo dyeing of local people.

The Sapa Culture and Tourism Week, which kicked off in Sapa town on April 30, includes art exchanges, a photo exhibition on Sapa, a display of ornamental trees, and a highland trade fair.
