CMC to build US$250 million green data center in Ho Chi Minh City
Construction on the hyperscale data center is expected to begin in 2026.
THE HANOI TIMES — CMC Corporation, one of Vietnam’s leading technology firms, has announced a $250 million investment in a hyperscale data center in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to bolster the country’s digital infrastructure and support its ambitions in artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
The CMC Hyperscale Data Center, approved by the Management Board of Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP), will be located in the city’s eastern innovation hub.

The facility will begin with an initial capacity of 30 MW and scale up to 120 MW to support the growing needs of AI and digital transformation.
It will provide AI, cloud, big data, and cybersecurity services powered by renewable energy and built to green design standards.
"This data center will lay the digital foundation for Ho Chi Minh City to evolve into a regional digital hub," said CMC Corporation’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh.
The project is a strategic move in the group’s plan to expand globally while playing a pivotal role in Vietnam’s AI and digital economy roadmap.
It is also one of Ho Chi Minh City’s key digital infrastructure initiatives.
In June, CMC broke ground on its innovation hub complex in Hanoi, which Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh envisioned as a “technology valley” that will attract top engineers and scientists.
As of March 2025, the Ministry of Science and Technology reported that Vietnam had a total data center capacity of 182 MW, which is far below the national target of 870 MW by 2030.
Currently, the country operates one hyperscale data center with a capacity of 30 MW.
To close the gap, local companies are investing in large-scale projects expected to add 220 MW.
In April, Viettel, a Vietnamese telecom firm run by the military, began construction on a 140 MW data center in Ho Chi Minh City.
