Vietnam launches national data center

It marks a milestone in Vietnam's strategy to promote safe sharing and utilization of national data.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Ministry of Public Security launched the National Center for Data Innovation and Exploitation in Hanoi on July 4 to unlock the value of national data for better governance, innovation, and socioeconomic growth.

At the event, Major General Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, Director of the National Data Center, said the new institution is designed to transform raw data into strategic value.

It will serve as a national hub for collaboration between the government, businesses, and research institutions to develop new, data-driven business models and platforms.

"This center marks a major step forward in safe, efficient, and sustainable data sharing and innovation," he said.

The facility is expected to play a key role in developing core data technologies, including digital infrastructure, AI, blockchain, and big data analytics. Furthermore, it will incubate strategic technological initiatives and contribute to the development of Vietnam’s digital ecosystem.

The center will collaborate with relevant agencies to develop legal frameworks and policies that ensure data security, privacy, and intellectual property rights. Additionally, it will seek to establish a science data innovation fund and dedicated data industrial parks.

During the launch, the center signed deals with 27 technology and finance partners, demonstrating strong private-sector support for the national data strategy.

Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered the urgent development and operation of the National Data Center according to Directive No. 103/CD-TTg, issued on June 30. The center will provide shared infrastructure and safeguard national and local data systems.

The directive addresses data integration gaps and aligns with Plan No. 02-KH/BCDTW on science, technology, and digital transformation.
