Speaking at the opening ceremony, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung highlighted the function and tasks of the National Election Council to successfully organise elections.
The Chairman said that from now and the Lunar New Year falling on February 8, the council needs to make thorough preparations for a national conference in January 2016 to launch elections of deputies to the NA and the People’s Councils, which will officially announce the election day.
Participants gave their opinions on drafting agenda, working regulations and the establishment of the Office of the National Election Council at the session.
To better serve the elections of the 14th NA and People’s Councils deputies for the 2016-2021 tenure, the NA Standing Committee issued a resolution regulating the operations of the National Election Council’s Office.
Under the helm of a chief appointed by the Chairman, the office will be responsible for guiding and directing elections.
The Council also decided to set up three sub-committees in charge of arranging human resources and settling complaints, drafting legal regulations and holding communications campaigns, and ensuring social security and order.
