The event aims to introduce new tourism services during the National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day holiday.
Vietnam's central coastal city of Da Nang has launched the 2019 Sea Tourism Season from April 26 to May 1, expecting to attract more visitors, both domestic and foreign, local media reported.
This year’s event will feature a signing ceremony of commitments among travel agencies to protect the tourism environment, pigeon releasing, a kayak race on My Khe sea, a chess championship on Ban Co (Chessboard) peak, a hot-air balloon show, an artistic kite flying event, souvenir stalls and daily nigh music shows.
According to the organizing board, the program was part of events approved by the Da Nang People's Committee to organize annually on the occasion of the National Reunification Day and May Day. The program has become a cultural, sports and tourism event that attracts many people and visitors.
Nguyen Duc Vu, head of the management board for Son Tra peninsula and Da Nang beaches, said the annual activity aims to introduce new tourism services during the National Reunification Day and May Day holiday, thus raising public awareness of sea and island environment protection.
In 2018, Da Nang was rated the second most popular destination for solo or couple travelers, reported South Korea’s Ticket Monster Inc. Da Nang was also described as the best place to live in Vietnam
On this occasion of the National Reunification Day and May Day, Da Nang is expected to welcome 373,000 visitors, a 5% increase from same period last year. Of the total, some 114,000 would be foreign visitors, a rise of 12.4% year-on-year; and 259,000 would be domestic holidaymakers, a rise of 2% year-on-year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.
