Da Nang opens APEC Park

The newly opened architecture on the banks of the Han River is expected to become a hot tourist attraction in the city in the post-pandemic period.

A ceremony marking the opening of the “Expanded APEC Park” project, which is located on the banks of the Han River was held on January 10.

The construction covering an area of 8,668 sq.m is the second phase of the APEC Park project.

The project has a total investment of VND759 billions (US$33.46 millions), of which the cost of site clearance  amounted to more than VND623.3 billion ($27.5 millions). Meanwhile, the cost of construction and equipment is VND130 billion ($5.74 millions). The funding for the construction is sourced from the city’s budget.

The architectural complex is surrounded by a spacious green park, large lawns, cobbled walkways, gardens, among others.

The basement is a public parking area and technical rooms. The first floor consists numerous resting spaces, souvenir shops, restaurants, coffee shops as well as a tourist information center.

The second floor (the dome) is a large open space overlooking the Han River.

The APEC expanded park is a community area that is open to all locals and consists of trails, lakes, and lush green spaces.

According to Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, the giant dome, made from 200 tons of steel, is an impressive highlight of the APEC expanded Park, depicting the image of “a flying high kite”. It features an area of 790 sq.m.

“The project represents the aspiration for international integration of the people of Da Nang city. Here, everyone wishes to build a green and friendly city in harmony with nature,” he said.

Chinh hoped that the expanded APEC Park will be a new tourist attraction and entertainment venue for residents and visitors. “Here, important cultural activities and festivals will be held in the near future,” he stressed.

The new development is one of many works to celebrate the 22nd Party Congress of Da Nang city for the 2020-2025 tenure towards the 13th National Party Congress.

Opened on November 9, 2017, the existing APEC Park covers an area of nearly 3,000 sq.m and displays statues representing the economies that joined the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang.
