The central city of Danang will host the fifth East Asian Seas Congress in November this year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced on May 25.
The event, themed “Global Targets - Local Benefits: Setting the Sustainable Development Agenda for the Seas of East Asia beyond 2015,” is expected to welcome 800 international and domestic delegates, including investors, and regional partners, the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reported.
Participants will review coastal and sea marine zone management in the region, and discuss successful research in coastal management and the East Asian marine sustainable development strategy.
The congress will include senior officials' meetings, East Asian Seas Partnership Council Meeting, international workshops, forums, dialogues with scientists and youth, exhibitions and field trips.
Since its launch in 2003, the triennial East Asian Seas Congress has been held alternately in the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) member countries, namely Malaysia (2003), China (2006), the Philippines (2009) and the Republic of Korea (2012).
