Thousands of books sent to localities

The Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department, the Viet Nam Post and Trung Nguyen Group hosted a ceremony to announce a co-operation project to develop reading culture in community between 2020 and 2030 in Ha Noi on December 2.

The Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department, the Viet Nam Post and Trung Nguyen Group hosted a ceremony to announce a co-operation project to develop reading culture in community between 2020 and 2030 in Ha Noi on December 2.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, also the chairman of Viet Nam Publishers Association, Hoang Vinh Bao stressed that the ministry had approved the National Book Project for Developing Community Culture in the period of 2020-2030 Funded by Private Capital.
The ministry had also assigned the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department to co-ordinate with the Viet Nam Post and Trung Nguyen Group to publish and distribute valuable titles to culture posts throughout the country, he said.
The capital source for the project will be provided by the group, which marked a new way to “socialise” or mobilising social resources for  publishing activities to develop reading culture following the State’s guidelines.  
Between 2020 and 2025, the programme aims to provide books to 80 per cent of customers visiting post offices, while 50 per cent of family bookcases and local libraries connecting to the post book system.
At the ceremony, the three agencies signed an agreement to publish 30 titles to send to 13,000 culture post offices and establish book cafes of the group at the post offices in 63 provinces and cities.
The Department and the Post also signed an agreement to use up the technical infrastructure system of the Post to enlarge the distribution network, public reading places to provide books to more people, and exchange digital apps to develop digital publishing.
At the same event, the Information and Communications Publishing House, Trung Nguyen Group and Viet Nam Post also signed an agreement to publish and distribute both printed and digital books.
