Artisan Phan Thi Thuan, from Ha Village, Phung Xa Commune, My Duc District in the western outskirts of Ha Noi can’t wait for the event to introduce her “brainchild” – silk from lotus at the event.
“Three generations in my family have followed worm silk weaving handicraft,” she said. “I have a golden chance to try a new product - silk from lotus. I want to introduce the soul of the handicraft at the festival.”
Artisans from Xuan La Village, Phuong Duc Commune, Phu Xuyen District, who specialise in making toys figurines will also join the fest.
“We will bring the most colourful toy figurines, products by skilful and creative artisans,” said artisan Dang Van Khuong.
According to Bui Thi Huong Thuy, deputy head of the Heritage Management Unit, under the Ha Noi Culture and Sports Department, this year’s event will showcase typical handicraft villages, creative applied products of bronze casting village Ngu Xa (Ba Dinh District), silverware of Dinh Cong Village (Hoang Mai District); leaf conical hat of Vinh Thinh Village (Thanh Tri District) and ao dai (traditional long dress) from Trach Xa Village (Ung Hoa District).
According to To Van Dong, director of the Department, the annual event aims to promote historical and cultural values of Thang Long Ha Noi – a thousand-year holy land.
“Through the event, Hanoians will further bring into full play their role and responsibility in protecting and developing the heritage’s value and join hands in affirming and promoting the city as a ‘Creative City’”.
