Digital transformation is the hope for Vietnam to escape from the middle income trap and join the club of developed countries.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung urged businesses and people to join in digital technology and services as quick as possible, making great contribution into the country’s economic development.
Mr. Dung was speaking at the Vietnam Digital Transformation Day (DX Day 2020) held in Hanoi this week.
Mr. Dung said Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are the decisive factors in developing infrastructure, platforms, services, and providing digital transformation solutions. “Safe service and cyber security must also be accessible for all.”

With the theme “National Digital Transformation: Sharing and Connectivity”, DX Day 2020 is a practical activity to accelerate the process of national digital transformation in Vietnam and roll out the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030.
Mr. Dung said the national digital transformation officially kicked off in 2020. As if in March, there were only 3,000 searches with the keyword “digital transformation”, by November 2020, the figure rose to 30,000.
“The keyword "digital transformation" has been creeping into our lives. Vietnam high-level ICT forum 2020 is also in this trend,” Mr. Dung said.
“Digital transformation is our movement from real space to digital space, which is new and unprecedented. Therefore, awareness on the matter is important and we must share knowledge to accelerate the process. This transformation is also a long way, so we have to go together, we have to be connected,” he added.
Chairman of VINASA Truong Gia Binh said that it is a very special time - the time of action for digital transformation.
"Digital transformation is the hope for Vietnam to escape from the middle income trap and join the club of developed countries", Mr. Binh stressed.
According to a survey made by Singapore, if digital transformation is carried out drastically in ASEAN countries, the bloc’s GDP will be added US$1,000 billion by 2030 and Vietnam’s GDP will increase by US$100 billion by that time.
A quick survey of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) in over 500 enterprises and organizations showed that determination of the organization's leaders; cost, time, resources; and the way digital transformation is conducted are the biggest challenges for the process, followed by information security.
