The Vietnamese DPM stressed that multilateral and multidisciplinary connectivity plays a vital role in promoting cooperation among Asian countries.

A dynamic Asia has become a driving force for the world economy, serving to tackle global issues. To ensure fast and sustainable growth, it is necessary for Asia to foster cooperation; nurture development environment, and cope with general challenges, said Mr. Dam.

According to Mr. Dam, connectivity is key for cooperation among Asian nations, especially multilateral and multidisciplinary connectivity, not only transport and logistics but also policies on trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

The Deputy PM called on ACD countries to support each other at international forums, resolve social issues, protect the environment besides focusing on economic growth. The leader proposed Asian countries promote projects which relate to groups of countries or localities especially those in the Mekong, Ganga, and Amua rivers.

Vietnam, said the Deputy PM, commits to cooperating with other countries to spur cooperative pillars in a practical manner, especially food-water security and energy and promote approaches on sustainable growth. ACD is an Asian regional cooperation framework initiated by Thailand in 2002 with the aim to connect countries in Asia and to build an Asian community.

This year, leaders and delegates from 34 member countries joined the ACD Summit, held under the theme "One Asia, Diverse Strengths.” The leaders of the region will jointly set guidelines for future cooperation for the prosperity and stability of the Asian community.

The six pillars of cooperation include (1) connectivity; (2) science, technology, and innovation; (3) education and human resource development; (4) food, energy, and water security; (5) culture and tourism; and (6) promotion of inclusive growth and sustainable development.
