Fashion showcases Vietnamese and New Zealand cultural connections

Forty outstanding fashion designs featuring Vietnam and New Zealand’s common identity were unveiled in Ho Chi Minh City on August 6, part of the first fashion collaboration project between the two countries.

The project, beginning in last May, brought together 20 excellent students from six renowned universities and fashion schools in Vietnam and New Zealand.
A designer from Vietnam was paired with a designer from New Zealand, with each team working together via the internet to create unique designs embedded in the two countries’ cultural similarities.

The project was part of the activities initiated by the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam to mark the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
During the project launch in May, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Haike Manning pointed out that education and tourism were the basis for the two peoples’ mutual understanding.
He said the project aimed to provide youth with the opportunity to cooperate to create modern and unique fashion styles and learn about the two countries’ cultural values and similarities.
