Although there is no luck with Vietnam Golden Kites Awards and after a month-long journey to attend various international film festivals in the U.S, Director Dung was delighted that his debut film continued to be honoured in a number of important categories.
Accordingly, Best Foreign Feature and Special Jury Award for Outstanding Cinematography at the recently concluded 26th Arizona International Film Festival in Tucson, Arizona, are the latest awards won by his movie. This year's Arizona event gathered 96 films from 20 countries screened over 12 days from April 19 - 30.
Previously, Father and Son received a significant Indie Spirit Best Story Line Award at the 15th Boston International Film Festival from April 13 - 17 in Massachusetts with the participation of 3,218 movies worldwide. The films were shown at the Paramount Theaters in Boston.
In addition to the two above awards, Father and Son has recently been honoured with yet another achievement at the 17th Milano International Film Festival of Italy with the Best Cinematography award. The award was announced by the organisers on the festival’s website.
The Italian film festival takes place in Milan from May 10 to June 10. The best film award will be announced in late May. Director Luong Dinh Dung revealed that in addition to the opportunity to promote his film, he also had a meeting with U.S producers and discussed cooperation to produce his "5 -7-8" movie, which is expected to be launched next year.
Father and Son is an independent movie adapted from Dung’s short story titled “Cha cong con” written in 1995. Produced over ten years with a cost of nearly VND18 billion, the film made its debut in theatres in Vietnam from April 5 and has received enthusiastic support from critics and audience members. The film revolves around the main character, a little boy named Ca living with his blind father who has spent his entire life by the river.
