FIFA Director of Competitions Colin Smith has congratulated the Vietnam Futsal team on its good performance at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship, and welcomed it to the 2016 Futsal World Cup.
The FIFA Futsal World Cup is a 5-a-side indoor version of associated football held every four years.
Vietnam knocked out reigning champion Japan in the quarter-final round of the AFC Futsal Championship on February 17 in Uzbekistan, gaining an official ticket to the Futsal World Cup to be held in Colombia from September 10 to October 1.
In his congratulatory letter sent to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Collin affirmed that Vietnam’s victory was a historic moment for the national team securing its first-ever qualification for a FIFA Futsal World Cup.
As scheduled, in early March, FIFA will send information related to the competition to the VFF.
A plan on the official draw for the competition will be announced in April.
