Fostering Vietnam - Cuba bilateral relations and cooperation mechanisms
Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez said that Vietnam and Cuba should give priority to economic and trade cooperation as well as cooperation mechanisms at his meeting with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on June 12 in Hanoi.
PM Phuc expected that the Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly’s visit to Vietnam will make active contributions to tightening the relations between the two Parties, States and people. He hailed Cuba’s huge achievements in updating the economic development model and its success in diplomatic process, helping increase the nation’s status.
Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez thanked Vietnam for facilitating him to make a speech at the Vietnam National Assembly on June 12, affirming that Cuba attaches importance to the strategic relationship with Vietnam. He expressed thanks to Vietnam for providing rice for Cuba and launching programs to ensure food security as well as Vietnam’s assistance to the country's quest for the U.S. lifting of its embargo on Cuba.
PM Phuc agreed that Vietnam will send a number of delegations in all fields to Cuba to exchange experience on renovation. The Vietnamese Government encourages and facilitates the bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, said the PM, adding that Vietnam is willing to provide long-term rice for Cuba.
The host proposed the two sides enhance delegation exchanges between ministries, localities and businesses as well as promote cooperation in advantageous areas such as agriculture, biological industry, construction, tourism, telecommunications and electronics.
The occasion, the Vietnamese PM hoped that the two nations’ National Assemblies will negotiate, sign and launch bilateral cooperative agreements and programs to serve for each side’s national development.
* The same day, while meeting with Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez in Hanoi, President Quang said the Vietnamese leaders and people always attach great importance to reinforcing and enhancing solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba.
President Tran Dai Quang has urged the Vietnamese and Cuban Parties and States to continuously direct ministries and relevant departments to step up the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and refine a legal framework for stable and long-term collaboration.
He hailed the outcomes of the talks between the Cuban top legislator and Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and hoped the two parliaments will consolidate ties on both bilateral and multilateral aspects.
Vietnam is willing to share experience in reform and do its utmost to support Cuban people to overcome difficulties and challenges, Quang said.
He recognised the effective cooperation mechanisms between the two countries such as the Parties’ theoretical workshop, the inter-governmental committee’s meeting, the deputy foreign ministers’ political consultation, and the deputy defence ministers’ strategic dialogue.
The two countries could tap huge potential in economic, trade, and investment cooperation, he said, adding that more Vietnamese businesses are eyeing the Cuban market.
The President showed his delight at close bilateral coordination and mutual assistance at multilateral forums and international organizations, especially at the United Nations. Vietnam pursues persistent stance of supporting the early removal of embargo against Cuba. Esteban Lazo Hernandez said Vietnam has a plenty of experience in agriculture and energy. This is the proper time for the two countries to bring their cooperative relations into reality, he added.
