Hanoi aims to supply its citizens with 100% of clean water by 2020, said a local official.
Environmental protection, garbage collection and treatment and clean water supply were discussed Wednesday between Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Hung and Jean-Charles Nefgre, Politburo member and former standing member of the French Communist Party (PCF) Secretariat.
At the meeting, the French official hailed the sound and thriving traditional relations between the two communist parties. In the wake of word uncertainties, the PCF aims to contribute to boosting ties between France and countries, including Vietnam, he said.
He also touched on other potential cooperation areas, including a plan for the city to host the world’s Tennis Professionals tournament.
According to Jean-Charles Nefgre, the ATP tournaments have been held in numerous Asian countries, therefore he hoped it would soon take place in Hanoi city and be supported by the local government. Besides, the PCF official wanted to know more about Hanoi's target in solving environmental pollution.
He also said that French enterprises are increasingly interested in Hanoi's metro line projects, a concern that he hoped to be managed by the city’s government.
For his part, Hanoi's Nguyen The Hung appreciated the close and developing ties between France and Vietnam. The two countries’ communist parties have enjoyed a fruitful and loyal relation for a very long time.
Hung also hailed activities of PCF and thanked its close relation and timely support to the Communist Party of Vietnam during the socialism construction.
In terms of future cooperation, Hanoi is working to host the ATP tennis professionals tournament by 2020. About the environment issue, Hung briefed that the city’s main target is by 2020, all 10 million citizens in the city will have access to safe water. To achieve the target, the city is heading to build European-standard water factories projects and call for enterprises to invest in them.
During the past three years, Hanoi has changed totally the traditional procedure of collecting and treating garbage, while heading to build garbage-to-power plants.
Hung hopes that French partners with deep knowledge and experiences in those areas would support Hanoi to achieve its ambitious goals.
