Fulbright University gets investment certificate

In the presence of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Fulbright University Vietnam project received its investment certificate at a ceremony held in New York on July 10.

It will be the first non-profit private university in the country. 
Thomas Vallely, chairman of the Trust for University Innovation in Vietnam (TUIV)- Fullbright University Fund, expressed his pleasure in receiving the certificate for the university that will be located in the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP). 
He said proficient Vietnamese lecturers and adequate infrastructure for scientific activities would be crucial to the university’s success.

Le Hoai Quoc, head of the SHTP management board, noted that Vietnam’s Fulbright Economics Teaching Programme was the outcome of co-operation established 20 years ago between the HCM City University of Economics and Harvard University’s J.F. Kennedy School of Government. 
Fulbright University will provide training in high-tech fields, Quoc said, adding that the Saigon Park has pledged support to expediting the project’s operation. 
Meeting with intellectuals from the Harvard University, Trong thanked the university for training a number of Vietnamese officials. 
Vietnam aims to achieve rapid, sustainable development, he said. He expressed his hope that professors and scientists from Harvard University in particular and from the US in general would further support Vietnam in scientific research and human resources development. 
Professor David Dapice of Harvard University stressed that growth in labour productivity must be accompanied by global knowledge integration. 
He expected Fulbright University to foster education ties between Vietnam and the US, and contribute to increasing the quality of university education in Vietnam. 
On the sidelines of the Party leader’s official visit to the US, Planning and Investment Minister Bui Quang Vinh met with leaders of the Coca Cola Company, General Electric group and Apple Inc. 
Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang met the US Trade Representative and Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce.
