Accordingly, GE volunteers in Ho Chi Minh city helped Son Phu elementary school in Giong Trom district, southern province of Ben Tre on August 16 by renovating classrooms and providing much needed new chairs, tables and doors. They joined hands with GE Volunteer Student Club (GEVSC) - the group of outstanding students who received scholarships from GE foundation scholar - leaders program (GFSL) - to offer children at Lan Tranh elementary and secondary school, Lac Duong district, central province of Lam Dong with essential educational equipment.
GE Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh city Red Cross co-organized a blood donation campaign on August 22 as the blood shortage in Vietnam is becoming more severe of late.
Meanwhile, GE Hanoi volunteers provided 75 bedding sets (mosquito net, sleeping mat, pillow and blankets) for children at Ba Be district, Bac kan province on August 20. This activity was organized in association with the “Mountainous children fund” (previously known as "Only rice is not enough” charity program) to motivate poor children in mountainous areas to continue their education.
In addition, GE Hai Phong is expected to combine volunteer activity with a company outing day on September 12 for refreshment of Bai Chay beach, Ha Long city. The event follows last year’s campaign to raise public awareness of nature conservation issues with the cleaning of Cat Ba beach.
“ASEAN Global community day has been part of GE’s global program to demonstrate the company’s commitment to the communities across GE’s regions of operation where its volunteers have devoted time and effort to meaningful community activities for years. The positive contribution GE volunteers has made in the areas of education, environment, health and community development has not gone unnoticed by the recipients of the volunteers’ efforts,” said Ms Nguyen My Lan - CEO of GE Vietnam.
Global community day, an initiative powered by GE volunteers, is an annual event which takes place in the second half of every year.
