The information was released at meeting between leaders of Hanoi city and the US-based cable news network.
Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has revealed that the city and CNN are working on a potential cooperation program for the next five years (2019-2014) following the success of a recent deal.
Last year, Hanoi spent US$1 million on a deal with CNN to broadcast the history, culture, and people of the city and Vietnam on the CNN channel in 2017-2018.
The program is still pending approval of the Hanoi People’ Council.
The information was learnt at a meeting between Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung and Sunita Rajan, CNN Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales - APAC, in Hanoi on December 5 where they discussed the bilateral partnership in the time ahead.
At the meeting, Sunita Rajan hailed the cooperation between Hanoi and CNN during the past two years, basing on which two sides can look forward to the next phase in partnership.
“CNN wants to go along with Hanoi in the city’s upcoming big events as well as build up the city’s image as the gate to other corners in Vietnam”, Sunita said during the meeting.
For his part, Chung highly valued the cooperation between Hanoi and the US cable news network in promoting the city to the world during in these two years. He recognized the positive results obtained from CNN’s promotional videos.
The mayor also drew out two suggestions with CNN. Accordingly, Chung requested CNN to share the database collected via the two-year program so that both sides can build promotion plans for 2019. Additionally, he asked the news network to provide assistance in staff training for the municipal
Departments of Culture & Sports, and Communications and Information.
The CNN’s executive acceded to Hanoi Mayor’s suggestions and affirmed willingness to keep up the collaboration with Hanoi in 2019 and further beyond.
