As the Fourth Industrial Revolution is affecting many countries and areas, the world`s publishing industry is rapidly moving into the Internet and electronic environment.
The Hanoi Book Fair 2018 themed "Book and digital technology", which started at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel on October 3, highlights modern reading culture in the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
The ceremony saw the attendance of Deputy Minister of Information and Communications cum President of Vietnam Publishing Association Hoang Vinh Bao, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy together with representatives of publishing houses, book publishing companies in Hanoi and the whole country.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said that the Hanoi Book Fair 2018 is taking place as the city celebrates the 64th anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day.
The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is affecting many countries and areas. The world's publishing industry is rapidly moving into the Internet and electronic environment, Quy added.
Therefore, Vietnam’s publishers need to approach, gradually deploy and apply modern information technology solutions and digital content services in the publishing industry, so that it really becomes a cultural industry, Quy stressed.
The festival gathers 200 booths from various publishing houses and book companies where books are for sale at a discount. The domestic and international businesses will also organize seminars and presentations.
At the Hanoi Book Fair 2018, the space for "Books and digital technology" will focus on displaying and introducing innovative products, technologies combining traditional paper books and applications on the smart devices, technology books (ebooks, audio books) to readers.
This technique is becoming popular among readers because it creates special effects on the pages. For example, a normal print book can contain 3D and animated images if it is scanned with an app.
Book introduction and exchange activities continue to be organized with the participation of 25 publishers, publishing groups and representative offices of foreign publishers in Vietnam from Germany, France, the USA, South Korea, Japan and some Southeast Asian countries.
The book fair will take place from October 3 to October 7. The entrance is free.
