Hanoi book festival 2016 kicks off at Thang Long Heritage Preservation Centre
Hanoi book festival 2016, themed "Books and Integration" was opened at the Thang Long Heritage Preservation Centre, 12 Nguyen Tri Phuong Street in Hanoi, between October 6 and 10.
The book festival is a part of activities to celebrate 62nd anniversary of the Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2016).
The event is organised by the municipal Department of Information and Communications.
According to the Organising Board, the book festival aims to mark the 62nd anniversary of the Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2016), 20th anniversary of Vietnam joining the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the first year of the establishment of the ASEAN Community.
The festival attracts the participation of 46 publishers and booksellers nationwide, and 20 foreign publishing brands with about 170 booths.
The event displays books and publications with the rich variety of genres, including children's books, literature, culture and society, economy and ebooks.
Beside books and publications introducing traditional cultures, and cooperation activities between Hanoi and ASEAN members, there will be on display many books for children and books of various subjects, such as literature, economics and science by domestic and international authors.
The Hanoi book festival 2016 was also attended by many well-known foreign publishers such as Cambridge, Oxford (UK), Copperath (Germany), Glanat (France), Susseaeta (Spain), Graph-Art (Hungary), Japan UNI Agency and Frobel- kan (Japan), Zikrrul (Indonesia), and Kyowon (Korea), especially with the participation of ASEAN Publishing Association and a number of publishers association in the region.
The festival is not only a cultural activity, it also makes a chance to promote cultural exchange between countries worldwide, especially the nations in the ASEAN community.
The festival aims to inspire enthusiasm for reading among the community, particularly younger generations; honor reading culture and traditional cultural values; create a significant and attractive playground for book lovers; and encourage participating units to introduce new and interesting books to readers.
The event will take place numerous significant activities, including: the ceremony to present the award "The Capital's ambassador of reading culture 2016 " for teens and children in Hanoi city and the organising of art film show to introduce the intangible cultural heritages of Hanoi.
Visitors will also have a chance to learn more about calligraphy and read books while enjoying coffee and tea. Products and achievements in publishing, information, technology and communications will be introduced.
The festival runs through October 10.
