Chung made the statement during a working trip to Singapore from September 21 – 23 at the invitation of the Singaporean government, aiming to promote investment into Hanoi and learn Singapore’s experience in hosting the Formula One race.

Singapore is currently the third largest investor in Vietnam and the second largest in Hanoi. During the meeting between Chung and Singaporean leaders, both sides agreed investment to be a priority in cooperation areas, in addition to the development of smart city, education, tourism and people to people exchange.

In a meeting with CEO of Formula One Chase Carey, Chung briefed the Formula One’s executive on the preparation progress for the upcoming race in Hanoi, including the development of IT infrastructure and PR activities for the event.

Carey highly appreciated Hanoi’s effort in preparing for the race, saying Formula One would closely cooperate with Hanoi to promote the culture of Vietnam among regional and international friends.

Hanoi’s delegation also held separate meetings with major corporations in Singapore, including ROK Group, Grab and NPark Singapore.

President of ROK Group Jonathan Kendrick proposed ideas for tech development projects in Hanoi, such as manufacturing the world’s first 3D mobile phone; producing 3D documentary film about Vietnam, making electric vehicles and charging stations in Vietnam with investment capital of US$500 million; and exporting traditional Vietnamese beers to the US market.

Chung welcome ROK’s initiatives and said the city is committed to supporting the company in realizing these projects.

Meeting Russell Cohen, CEO of Grab in Asia, Chung said Grab’s operation in Vietnam has contributed to the development of digital economy in the country and the government’s agenda of non-cash transactions.

In a meeting with Chuah Hok Seong, director of NPark Singapore, Chung said there have been positive results in cooperation between Hanoi and the company in the field of urban landscape development. He expected NPark to send experts to Hanoi and help train Hanoi’s staff and employees.

This would contribute to realize Hanoi’s goal of becoming an ideal living environment, Chung stated.
