In the first quarter of 2024, Hanoi created jobs for more than 45,600 people, reaching 28% of the annual target, which is up 2.3% year-on-year, according to the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Nguyen Tay Nam, deputy director of the department, said the city had created jobs for 13,880 workers in the first quarter using city funds disbursed through the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.
The loans, totaling nearly VND887 billion (US$35.4 million), were provided to the poor and other policy beneficiaries in Hanoi.
The city also found jobs for 1,355 workers through the employment service system. In addition, 26,962 workers either became self-employed or got hired through counseling and placement services provided by the city.
There were 1,112 people who went abroad to work on contracts in the Japanese, Taiwanese (Chinese) and Korean markets.
The Hanoi Employment Service Center contributed to the employment results in the first quarter by organizing 54 job transaction sessions involving 1,715 units and enterprises with 28,336 recruitment requests. Of the total 11,513 workers interviewed, 3,648 were hired.
More than 11,345 people found jobs through job counseling and placement services, and another 181 received vocational training courses worth VND735 million ($29,344). In addition, the unemployment insurance fund paid out a total of VND450.4 billion ($18 million) to more than 14,000 workers.
In March alone, the city found jobs for 17,340 workers. Hanoi provided unemployment insurance support to 4,011 people, amounting to VND135 billion ($5.38 million); offered employment counseling to 2,345; and supported vocational training for 72 others, at the cost of VND298 million ($11,895).
The Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has developed the labor market and improved the employment data system to improve the link between labor supply and demand and reduce the unemployment rate.
In the second quarter of 2024, the Department will submit to the Municipal People's Committee a plan for implementing the project "Dissemination of laws for workers and employers to meet the requirements of implementing international labor obligations for the period 2023-2030".
