With the goal of enhancing the value of agricultural products and supplying high-quality fresh flowers for consumers in Hanoi, the munnicipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has promoted the application of technical advances and invested in new science technologies and state of the art seeds in flower production in the city.
Particularly, the application of breeding technology results, tissue culture technology has contributed to bring rapidly a variety of high standard seeds into production. So far, a large number of high-quality flower seeds have been tested in many flower areas in Hanoi like domestic lily (Sorbonne, Robina, Yelloween, Con'cador, Lamancha, Belladonna ...) and some orchids like Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis orchid, Dancer, Continental belt, Cattleya, Vanda, Mokara, Dendrobium.
Vu Thi Huong - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Centre said, a large number of models applied engineering automation to control climate in greenhouses and nethouse has apppeared in Hanoi in order to control blossom time on the occasion of Tet festivals, contributing dramatically top lift economic beneficiery for farmers.
Besides, new material applications recently have been put in use such as building greenhouse by plastic or roof adjustable with light intensity. In particular, the application of cryopreservation technology will extend the fresh time of high quality flowers.
Some models of high-tech applications in the production of flowers and ornamental plants could be named as Hoa Loi cooperatives (Soc Son district) with more than 15.100m2 lilies growing in greenhouses; Tu Dinh garden (Long Bien District ) self – investing in a small scale tissue culture to supply for itself and for several satellite households.
The most typical model is Hoai Dan cooperative (Dan Phuong district) with a wide area of 10,000m2, which specializes in producing high-grade flowers like orchids, lilies. Of which, revenue from phalaenopsis orchids in modern greenhouse reaches about 4-5 billion VND per hectare yearly; from dancer orchids, lilies in the secondary modern nethouse gains from 1.2 to 2 billion VND per hectare annually.
