Three more villages in Thuong Tin, Tay Ho and Dong Anh districts in Hanoi have recently been recognized as craft villages by the municipal People’s Committee.
The city’s new craft villages are An Dinh traditional fine art village in To Hieu commune, Thuong Tin district; Tu Lien traditional bonsai village in Tu Lien commune, Tay Ho district; Vong La traditional Tofu village in Vong La commune, Dong Anh district. The three villages will enjoy incentives for the development of rural trades.
Earlier, “Quintessence of the Vietnamese craft village” project has been launched at Bat Trang village for the past years and will be completed late next year. It will be a place to introduce and promote the best of Vietnamese craft villages to domestic and foreign visitors.
Accordingly, with US$4 million, the project covers an area of 3,300 square meters divided into specialized areas for pottery and porcelain, rattan, bamboo, and silk products, furniture, to he toy figurines, and other craft items.
Hanoi is home to the majority of traditional craft villages and artisans in Vietnam, with more than 1,350 craft villages, more than 300 of which have been recognized as traditional craft villages. When the project is completed, regular performances and competitions will be organized there for artisans to demonstrate their skills.
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Dam Tien Thang, machines could never completely replace humans. The artisans are the soul of a craft village, its mainstay, and the driving force for its development.
Following the “Quintessence of the Vietnamese craft village” project in Bat Trang, the Vietnam Craft Village Association plans to build similar projects in other Hanoi villages. Van Phuc silk village in Hanoi’s Ha Dong district will be the next beneficieries of the project, and then it will be carried out in craft villages throughout Vietnam.
