Hanoi holds 5th Open Cycling Tournament

500 cyclists took part in the biggest cycling tournament in Hanoi.

Over 500 cyclists from 44 cycling clubs in Hanoi and other provinces and cities took part in the biggest cycling tournament in Hanoi to celebrated the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 15) and the National Day (September 2).

The 5th Hanoi Open Cycling Tournament - VietABank Cup 2023, co-organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Cycling Federation, took place at Hoan Kiem Lake on August 27.

The cyclists raced on a route starting from Ba Kieu Temple, passing through Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thai To, Hang Khay streets and back to the starting point.

Cyclists competed in five different criteria based on age, such as 20 laps for male cyclist aged 18-39 or 15 laps for male cyclist aged 40-45. Meanwhile, female athletes competed in the shorter distance event.

The Hanoi Cycling Tournament is part of a series of cultural and sports activities sponsored by Hanoi city. So far, it has become an inter-provincial event when gathering many famous clubs in Hanoi and other areas. Cyclists took the opportunity to train and improve their skills, prepare to join in bigger tournaments and conquer higher achievements.

According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai, Hanoi is one of the cities which has the largest number of cycling clubs in the country, with nearly 70 clubs and over 5,000 athletes.

In the previous season, which took place in 2019, the even draw over 300 athletes from more than 30 cycling clubs in many cities and provinces. After three years of delay due to the Covid-19, the tournament resumed this year with the number of cyclists nearly doubled.

This bicycle race brings together athletes and spreads the sportsmanship and a civilized and positive lifestyle in the community.
