The Hanoi People`s Committees inaugurated the construction of pilot solid waste treatment plant using environmentally-friendly technology from the Japanese prefecture of Fukuoka in the Xuan Son waste treatment zone, Son Tay town on June 8.
Director of Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Trong Dong said the project has been deployed under the Memorandum on Hanoi - Fukuoka cooperation in the field of environmental management and protection.
The facility worth 47 billion VND includes a landfill covering around 3 hectares with a designed treatment capacity of nearly 100 tonnes per day.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao stressed that althouch the project is small but it reflects the result of the friendly cooperation relationship between Hanoi and Fukuoka. This is also a sample project of the application of Japan's advanced technologies for waste treatment, reducing environmental pollution and contributing to sustainable development of the capital.
Chairman Nguyen The Thao thanked for assistances from Japanese experts, Vietnam's embassy in Japan and units of State ministries and sectors, supports of local residents to complete the project.
The Chairman appointed the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment to work closely with the Japanese sides in operating the facility and reviewing its outcome.
Addressing at the event, Fukuoka Governor Ogawa Hiroshi expressed pleasure at the completion of the pilot solid waste treatment plant in the Xuan Son waste treatment zone, and affirming the efficient cooperative relations between the two localities will push up Vietnam-Japan friendly relations.
The Governor said Fukuoka prefecture is willing to further support Hanoi in addressing its environmental issues in various fields.
