The 2016 handicraft fair - exhibition opened at the Thang Long Royal Citadel in Hanoi on August 26 with the aims to honour great craftsmen who have made significant contributions to building and preserving traditional craft villages.

The exhibition is part of a programme to grant the “People Artisan” and “Meritorious Artisan” titles to stand-out craftsmen. The craftsmen are also acknowledged for developing a brand for Vietnamese traditional handicraft products and making it more popular to the world.

An exhibition zone will be arranged to display products made by excellent artisans, including rattan, embroidery, silk and porcelain items. Local businesses will also introduce rural industry products at the fair area.

The fair - exhibition also serves as a valuable opportunity to introduce the achievements made in the protection and development of Vietnamese traditional villages.
The event is expected to help craftsmen, trade villages, enterprises introduce their products, boost exchanges and cooperation to seek more domestics and foreign partners and expand market for the Vietnamese handicraft products.
Skills performances, as well as conferences on handicraft product designs and a seminar on the orientations for handicraft exports are scheduled during the event.
The event runs through August 29.
