Hanoi opens jubilantly 2016 Dong Da festival

The Dong Da festival to celebrate the 227th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi – Dong Da victory over the Chinese Qing invaders was organised in Hanoi on February 12 (the fifth day of the Lunar New Year).

Attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Hanoi Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai; National Assembly's delegation chief in Hanoi Pham Quang Nghi; Permanent Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang and Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Dong Da district People’s Committee Nguyen Song Hao recalled that on this day 227 years ago, Tay Son troops led by Nguyen Hue (later proclaimed Emperor Quang Trung) launched a surprise attack and defeated more than 29,000 invading soldiers right at the park. 
Since then, the fifth day of the lunar first month has become an annual traditional day of historic significance to people across the country, Chairman Hao said.

The victory of Ngoc Hoi – Dong Da has also gone down in Vietnamese history as an immortal and epic struggle for national construction and defence.
