The arrests were made as Hanoi police raided apartment number 3017 in a condominium and found 12 Chinese nationals, all of whom were unable to show any legitimate identification papers or immigration documents.
Of the 12 illegal immigrants found in the building, there are seven males and five females. Among them, the youngest was born in 1994 and the oldest in 1973.
Hanoi’s authorities are currently conducting investigations in accordance with the law.
Other 67 Chinese immigrants were found illegally residing in Hanoi’s districts of Nam Tu Liem and Thanh Xuan since late April amid concerns over coronavirus infection in Vietnam from imported sources.
The country’s latest coronavirus outbreaks have seen 37 community transmissions since last week in six localities: Ha Nam, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Phuc and Danang.
At the time of writing, the country has recorded 2,996 Covid-19 cases, with 35 deaths; 397 of them still active.
