The free bus travel for seniors (aged more than 60 years) is part of the city's drive to encourage more residents to use public transport and to make better use of existing services.
The elderly people who need to use bus travel service can submit application forms at desks located in various bus stops across the city. The application requires a photo (taken within one year) and an ID photocopy (presented with the original for verification).
Currently, the elderly people who have not been granted the bus travel pass could also enjoy free ride until January 31 next year by showing their original IDs to the bus drivers.
Besides, the Hanoi Department of Transport said that free bus pass will help them know the number of seniors who need bus service, so that the agency can map out a passenger transport plan and ensure good services.
By the end of November 23, 2019, the Hanoi Center for Urban Transport Management has issued 150,762 free bus travel passes, including 150,173 for seniors and 589 for low income people. The center expects that by the end of January 2020, the majority of needy people will receive bus travel passes.
