Hanoi to host European Film Festival 2020

The festival will take place from November 20 to December 7, 2020.

The European Film Festival 2020 will be held in Hanoi, Thua-Thien Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the EU-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

Thirteen films selected from 14 European countries will be screened on this occasion, of which some movies have won several renowned national and international awards. 

Local audiences will find in the movies journeys of youth and maturity, history and modern life, family values ​​and loneliness in today’s busy life, conflicts and hope.

The festival will take place in an unpredictable context of Covid-19, which has caused disruption all over the world. Thus, through the films, the festival is expected to convey a message: “Even though there are failures, loneliness and loss, we need to strive as we have love and hope towards a brighter future.”

This is the 20th event held by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam in collaboration with the embassies of EU member countries and the European Cultural Institutes in Vietnam.

The films to be screened include Lola vers la mer, Magic life of V, Winter Flies, That time of the year, Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe, Brooklyn, The silence of others, Louise by the shore, Perfect Strangers, Motherland, Budapest Noir, Mr Twister at the Pitch, Beside me.

The film screenings will take place at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi, Cinestar Cinema in Hue, Cinestar Quoc Thanh Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City and Lotte Ninh Kieu Cinema in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
