Hanoi's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in August expanded 3.8% month-on-month and 8.9% year-on-year, leading to an inter-annual increase of 7.7% for the January – August period, according to the municipal Statistics Office.
In August, the mining industry's index saw an increase of 1.5% month-on-month but down 27.9% year-on-year, while the manufacturing and processing industry tacked on 3.9% and 9%, respectively.
The production and distribution of electricity rose 2.2% and 8.2%, while water supply, sewage water collection and treatment increased by 2.2% and 10.7% on a monthly and annual basis, respectively.

The employment rate of industrial companies in August expanded 0.7% month-on-month and was down 2.3% year-on-year, of which employment in the FDI sector was up 1.2% and down 1.9%, in the state sector down 0.1% and 6%, and the private sector up 0.3% and down 1.3%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the number of workforce in the mining industry saw a decline of 50.1% year-on-year, in manufacturing and processing down 2.2%, production and distribution of electricity up 0.9%, water supply and waste treatment up 3.2%.
During the January – August period, the employment rate of industrial companies was 0.1% higher year-on-year. In the state sector, the rate saw a decline of 2.7% year-on-year, private sector employment down 0.2% and the FDI sector up 1.1%.
In terms of economic groups, the rate of employment in the mining industry decreased 16.3% year-on-year, manufacturing and processing up 0.1%, production and distribution of electricity down 0.3%, water supply and waste treatment up 3.9%.
