The consumer price index (CPI) of Ho Chi Minh City continued to drop, by 0.04% in April, but saw a year-on-year rise of 4.49%, according to the municipal Statistics Office.
Of the 11 groups of commodities, five saw decreasing prices including housing, electricity, water and fuel (1.24%); garment and textiles (0.04%); telecom (0.4%), culture-entertainment (0.2%) and other services (0.14%).
Four groups witnessed rising costs namely restaurants and food services (0.22%); beverage and tobacco (0.1%); household utensils (0.25%); and transport and post (0.29%).
The municipal Statistics Office attributed the surges to the warmer weather in which local residents spent more on beverage and food.
Meanwhile, the costs of medicines, healthcare service and education hit plateau.
