Ho Chi Minh City welcomes more than 2.6 million foreigners in the first four months of 2018
Ho Chi Minh City has received more than 2.6 million foreign visitors in the first four months of 2018, reaching 34.8% of this year’s plan.
Meanwhile, in April, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 615,406 foreign visitors, up 25% against at corresponding period last year, according to Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.
The tourism revenue for April was around VND10.2 trillion (US$450 million), a year-on-year rise of 17.46%, bringing the total revenue for the four months to VND42,258 billion (US$1.8 billion), meeting 30.62% of this year’s plan.
Ho Chi Minh City hopes to receive 7.5 million international visitors next year, a year-on-year increase of 25%. The number of domestic arrivals is expected to rise by a more modest 15% to 29 million, Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the city’s Department of Tourism was quoted as saying.
The city’s Department of Tourism and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group launched a tourism app featuring information searches and travel guides as well as an introduction to the city’s tourist attractions.
The app, called Vibrant Ho Chi Minh City, can be downloaded and installed on Android and IOS devices. After a six month pilot run, the app will be adjusted and introduced to domestic and international tourists.
The city has conducted several surveys as part of its recent efforts to develop new tourism products, programs, and tours to boost tourism development. It has also organized tourism promotion programs overseas with events such as Ho Chi Minh City Days in Aichi, Japan, a Mekong Sub-regional Tourism Youth Ambassador (TYA) action program, and an exchange program in Laos.
To make the city more attractive to international friends, the municipal People’s Committee has asked the Department of Tourism to continue to improve the quality of tourism products and services, focusing on the development of waterway tourism, organizing art performances to serve visitors, and implementing a program “Ho Chi Minh City – 100 interesting things” and a standard tourism service program.
