The festival was held on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day, which falls on May 13. The festival will also include a carnival parade and art performances by both domestic and foreign troupes.
In addition, a low-range display of fireworks was organised during the gala night at the opening ceremony. Initiated in 2011, the Flamboyant Flower Festival has become a recognised festival of Hai Phong, symbolising and praising the land and people of this land.
In the first four months of 2018, Hai Phong city’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew over 15%, the highest-ever level and doubling the national average, according to Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.
Of note, Hai Phong ranked ninth among 63 cities and provinces nationwide in the provincial competitiveness index in 2017, up 19 places as compared with 2015, Tung added.
Therefore, the city continued to be listed in the top ten attractive destinations for investors in the country. Many major projects have been completed in the city such as Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway, Cat Bi International Airport, Tan Vu-Lach Huyen- the longest bridge in Vietnam, and Hai Phong International Gateway Port .
The city will invest in many other important projects like Aeon mall, Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Bridge 2, terminal 2 of Cat Bi International Airport and other wharfs of Hai Phong International Gateway Port.
In 2017, Hai Phong city has received nearly 7 million visitors, total tourism receipts estimate VND2.7 trillion (US$119 million), up 13% year-on-year, according to Hai Phong Department of Tourism.
With the action programme on tourism development from 2017–2020 and a vision through 2030, Hai Phong city hopes to receive 8 million tourists and earn VND3.5 trillion (US$154 million) with expected annual average growth rates of between 8.2% and 8.9%.
