The ancient city`s Hoai river was classified as one of the 10 most-famous canals in the world by the US-based travel website www.touropia.com.

Hoi An, the UNESCO-recognised world heritage river, ranks fourth in the list.

The other canals are the Stockholm Canals; canals in Alappuzha, India; Bangkok Klongs; Nan Madol in the Federated States of Micronesia; Suzhou Canals, China; Panama Canal; canals of Bruges; canals of Amsterdam; and the canals in Venice.
In May, the town also cited as one of the top 10 attractive destinations in Viet Nam.
Located on the banks of the poetic Thu Bon River, in central Quang Nam province, 30 kilometers south of Da Nang city, the town is an Eastern oriental classic captivation.

The Hoai river is the favourite rendezvous of travellers, with lanterns being released on full moon nights every month.
Coming to Hoi An, tourists both locals and foreigners will have a chance to learn more about the culture and history of Hoi An, the My Son sanctuary and the biosphere reserve of the Cham islands.
