Hue Festival 2018 has received nearly 50,000 tourist arrivals every day, according to the ThuaThien - Hue Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
With nearly 30 arts performances and cultural events were organized for the course of the six-day festival, from April 27 to May 2, this year’s festival has attracted nearly 50,000 visitors. In addition, nearly 1,300 domestic and foreign artists are brought together at the Hue Festival 2018, which is taking place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The event was opened with a special art performance alongside a fireworks display at Ngo Mon (Noon Gate) Square in Hue imperial city on the night of April 27.
The highlight of the Hue Festival was an art programme entitled “Culture of the capital city”, held by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre to honour the five world cultural heritages in the locality.
Notably, as part of the activities within the festival, a national festival of “Hat Van” or “Chau Van” (a traditional art form that combines singing and dancing) took place from April 26 to 29, bringing together the artists and artisans of 16 art troupes from nearly 20 cities and provinces across the country.
A music show featuring “hat xam” (songs of a strolling blind musician), “hat cheo” (Vietnamese popular opera), “nha nhac” (Hue royal court music) was held at Dien Tho Palace in the imperial city of Hue on April 30, attracting a large crowd of people who love traditional melodies.
The same day, a cartoon exhibition of the French Nouvelle Aquitaine region displayed popular works by French artists, presenting various stories in three languages: French, English and Vietnamese.
A wide variety of activities were also held for the occasion, such as an Aodai (Vietnamese traditional long dresses) festival, exhibitions, a kite flying show, boat racing, and a calligraphy competition.
This year’s festival has been organised in association with numerous cultural events such as the 25th year since the Hue ancient citadel relic complex was recognised by the UNESCO as a world cultural heritage, and the 15th anniversary of the Hue royal court music being recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
