2020 is the year when the Covid-19 pandemic spills over 220 countries and territories, killing more than 1.7 million people. Vietnam can be proud when it successfully controlled Covid-19, produced the Covid-19 test kit very early with good quality, initially produced a vaccine at the end of the year, in the context of ensuring economic growth about 2.4%. The achievement was gained thanks to the efforts of the authorities and people of Hanoi in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Health, the fight against the pandemic in 2020 is divided into 2 waves. The first wave lengthens from the first case was found in Cho Ray General Hospital on January 23, then the cases coming from Wuhan, China; people immigrating to Vietnam, returning from pandemic regions and countries such as Europe and America.
The second wave started from the end of July with new cases in Da Nang City and some other provinces and cities.
For Hanoians, the milestones like March 6, 2020 and March 20, 2020 are unforgettable. On the evening of March 6, Hanoi officially announced the first case in the community, the case No. 17 was a 26-year-old female patient on flight VN0054 from London to Hanoi on March 2, 2020, infecting three people who were her aunt, housekeeper and driver; that led to the fight against the pandemic with cases from foreign countries imported to Vietnam.
In the following days, patients who were on flights from the UK, France, and South Korea were consecutively reported to be infected. According to many people, if Hanoi Government didn’t publish information early, apply measures to reassure people and quickly localise the pandemic, the situation will get out of control.
As a key area with a huge number of people who immigrated, under quarantine and treatment, the city has a high risk of disease outbreak. The city government has promptly directed and effectively implemented Covid-19 prevention and control. Especially the self-awareness, positive spirit, responsibility of people, businesses and the political system at all levels, thus controlled and repelled the pandemic in all stages. Up to now, there are 133 days of no new case in the area the number of quarantines since the first and second phases reached to 39,894. Over 100,000 people in the area was tested to control the complicated situation.
In 2020, Covid-19 pandemic took place in the whole world, Vietnam including Hanoi capital, has strived to prevent the pandemic. During the difficulties, humanity was once again multiplied. With the determination "No one is left behind", Hanoi and the whole country did not let any people hungry or die of starvation even in time of social distancing. A series of "Free Supermarkets”, "rice ATM" and other humanitarian movements have helped Hanoi confidently go through a pandemic. Although "fighting against the COVID-19 is like fighting the enemy", the authorities still pay attention to economic development, maintaining security and social order and having successfully held congresses at all levels.
