The city’s media and departments reported timely and updated news on politics, economics, and socio-cultural issues over the year.
Hanoi experienced a year of successes in terms of dissemination work in 2018 with the wide coverage of news in different fields.
The media including a radio and television station, newspapers, news portals, and concerning departments under the city's umbrella reported timely and updated news on politics, economics, and socio-cultural issues over the year.
The press outlets including Kinh Te Do Thi (Economic and Urban), Ha Noi Moi and Hanoi Radio and Television, and English news portal Hanoitimes.vn played the important fiddle in spreading news to both local and international audiences.
Important national events were covered without delay, including the World Economy Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN), the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Mekong-Lancang Summit, and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV-10).
In addition, the 45th anniversaries of bilateral diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK, France, Japan, and Australia with a series of socio-cultural activities were covered extensively. High-profile exchange visits were not missed by the capital city’s press.
Agencies like the Police Department helped prevent the spread of hostile news whist Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism promoted the image of Hanoi globally. During the year, the department cooperated with the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to promote Hanoi on 400 domestic and international flights, with VietJetAir in 13 destinations.
Notably, international exhibitions, investment and tourism promotion roadshows, and book fairs were among activities within the coverage, mostly online.
Nguyen Van Phong, head of the municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Propaganda, said at a meeting on January 8 that the communication work played an important role in promoting investment and tourism for Hanoi, adding that the agencies need to continue the tasks in 2019 with a number of events.
