Phuc is Vietnam’s 11th State President since 1945 and the first prime minister in the country’s history to become the head of the state.
The National Assembly (NA) today [April 5] elected Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc Vietnam’s State President with endorsement of 97.5% of NA deputies present.

The newly-elected State President later took the oath of office and pledged full allegiance to the motherland, people and constitution of Vietnam, while vowing to work hard to fulfill the duties entrusted by the Party, State and people.
Phuc is Vietnam’s 11th State President since 1945 and the first prime minister in the country’s history to become the head of the state.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong was previously relieved from the State President position on April 2.
