International arrivals to Hanoi increase by 26 percent during first ten months of 2017

The number of travelers to Hanoi in the first ten months of 2017 is estimated at 19,81 million, which mean a year-on-year surge of 10 per cent.

Among those, international arrival number hit nearly 4 million, 26 percent up from the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Tourism Department.
While number of traveler of long-stay touched 2.8 million passengers, an increase of 24 per cent against the same period last year, nearly 16 million domestic visitors arrived in Hanoi (up 7 per cent), and revenue from travelers is estimated at 58.653 billion VND (up 16 percent compared with the same period last year).

In October alone, tourist arrivals reached 1.764.000, up 11 per cent  as compared to the same period last year,. Among those, the international arrival number is valued at 392.000, up 25 percent on year-on-year basis (the long-stay number hit 280.000, surges 25 percent compared with the same period in 2016); domestic arrival number reaches 1,3 million, up 8 percent year-on-year.  Total revenue from tourist is expected to reach 5.299 billion VND, up 15 percent in comparison with the same period last year.
According to the city statistic, number of travelers to Hanoi destinations during the first 10 months of 2017 rises remarkably year-on-year. One of the most popular destinations is Hanoi Temper of Literature with 1.268.000 arrivals, up 18 percent year-on-year. Besides, Ethnic Museum welcomed 360.047 arrivals, up 2,2 percent year-on-year, among those, international arrivals hit 122.765 , up 13 percent compared with the same period last year.
During the first ten months, Huong Pagoda wellcome 1.405.388 tourist arrivals, equal to last year’s same period, among those the international number reachs 16.280, up 3 percent. Co Loa historic site  with 38.965 visitor arrival, increasing by nearly 8 percent year-on-year.
The 2017 Global Destinations Cities Index produced by credit card company Mastercard said foreign arrivals in the city grew at 16.4 percent between 2009 and 2016, the fastest after Osaka, Chengdu, Colombo, Abu Dhabi, Jakarta and Tokyo. Jakarta’s and Hanoi’s entry into the top 10 point to Southeast Asia’s rising significance as a key travel hub, the report said.
In the previous edition, which measured arrivals growth between 2009 and 2015, Hanoi ranked 13th, while the Indonesian capital came in at 11th.
The survey, which ranked 132 cities, found the Asia-Pacific leading global tourism by dominating in terms of visitor arrivals and revenues, raking in 91.16 billion USD in 2016, compared to 74.74 billion USD for Europe and 55.02 billion USD for North America.
Hanoi was named the cheapest travel destination by TripAdvisor travelers between 2014 and 2016. The travel site estimated last year that a three-night holiday for two in Hanoi cost only 494 USD, a quarter of the New York cost, the most expensive travel destination in the ranking.
International arrivals in Hanoi topped 3.5 million in the first nine months of this year, up 24 percent from a year ago, according to the city’s statistics office.
Vietnam’s Political Bureau has issued an important resolution on the country’s tourism development till 2035. Tourism has been identified as a leading economic sector that can drive socio-economic development.
The country is expected to see 17-20 million international visitors and 82 million domestic visitors, and tourism is expected to account for 10 per cent of the GDP, by 2020. The tourism revenue is forecast to touch US$35 billion by that time.
Vietnam has also set a target to become one of Southeast Asia’s leading travel destinations by 2030.
