Internet connection slows in Vietnam during couple of weeks

The Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) international undersea cable broke down can hinder Vietnamese users to acess internet to other countries during the upcoming holiday.

The cable broke down at 23:50 on April 23, disrupting Internet connections from Vietnam to other countries, announced the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT).

This is due to problem in cable system to the Chongming/APG/China station near China which disrupts Internet connection in Vietnam. The break down would take about two or three weeks to be tackled, which is also up to the weather conditions. Hence, the Internet connection of Vietnam to other countries will slow down during the upcoming holidays of Hung King’s anniversary (April 25), Reunification Day and Labor day (April 30 and May 1 respectively).
This is the third time this year the APG cable get disruption. Earlier in January, the cable suffered from the first problem, caused by expansion of Changi Airport in Singapore. The second one was on February 27, at a location about 125 km away from Hong Kong.
VNPT, one of the country’s largest Internet service providers, said to address the situation, it has re-directed the Internet traffic to other cable systems and been working with foreign partners to ensure the quality of Internet services so customers would not be severely affected.
The 10,400 km-long APG has a broadband capacity of 54Tbps, the highest of any network in Asia, connecting eight countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region – China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Vietnam. It was funded by four Vietnam firms including VNPT, Viettel, FPT and CMC Telecom.
